Horizon Community
DCCDC is acquiring twenty (20) existing homes in Mifflin Township to provide a homeownership opportunity for
first time buyers who are below 80% of median income, $51,200 for a family of four, a group largely not addressed by existing programs. These homes will be affordable to families between 50 and 65% of median income with mortgages
at or below $65,000 with development subsidies.
DCCDC proposes to redevelop these properties to provide 'like new' homes for these underserved families with a quality renovation of these units and provide a highly visible and demonstrable impact on the surrounding community to serve as a catalyst for revitalization of the neighborhood.
The project will be accessible to families in transition, such as transplanted Katrina survivors, new or re-entrants to the workforce or Section 8 renters currently in CMHA's Self Sufficiency program. The project wil linclude the development of resident support structure that employs community building, participatory management, personal enrichment activities and connection to direct supportive services as necessary.
There is a large inventory of substandard homes in the adjacent community as well as additional vacant residential lots that could provide other development opportunities.
